(Women in their 20’s)

  • Things which threaten people’s lives, whatever it is, should be done away with. When I think about our future, I think all nuclear plant operations should be stopped right now.
  • I didn’t know anything about the accident in Hamaoka. Though I think nuclear power generation is necessary, it is still threat to increase or to even maintain nuclear power in Japan, an earthquake country.
  • The fact that people living within the radiation area were ordered to evacuate, that antinuclear power movement in many places in the world were vocal and the information from news sources was present, made me think that people have to feel a sense of danger. But I think it is not right to say nuclear power station is unnecessary because we have lived easily by being able to use electricity as much as we wanted.
  • I think nuclear power plant has both a dark and light side. If it’s vital issue, no one thinks it is good thing. Most of all, I feel badly when I think of people working inside the plant for its restoration. It is a complicated discussion.
  • I don’t want an easy life with a very high risk of danger.
  • I have no doubt that nuclear energy is much cheaper than others and that it makes an enormous amount of energy. But I hope new energy will replace it. I hope people have more awareness in regards to saving energy.

(Women in their 30’s)

  • I hope nuclear power plant operation will be stopped gradually although I think it is impossible to do it immediately. It will be possible to abolish nuclear power generation by only using new energy like solar power and by saving energy.
  • I think it is dangerous in an earthquake country like Japan to have nuclear power plants. However as they are necessary, there is no choice but to maintain current power plants. But new ones should not be built.
  • Better to have safe energy like solar power and wind power instead, if possible.
  • I wonder if nuclear power plant operation is stopped suddenly, if the changing of operations will be successful.
  • Because of the Fukushima power plant accident, I have found that nuclear power plants should not have been built by the sea in an earthquake country.

(Women in their 40’s)

  • I think developing and increasing new energy is the best way. But unfortunately nuclear power is suitable to a small land like Japan because of its efficiency. Power plant’s safety should be enhanced, because you can never say nuclear power plant is totally safe.
  • I think the disaster of March 11 brought about a change in attitude that we Japanese have by uniting us in wishing to be free from much sorrow. We see the danger of nuclear power generation now, and as such, it is great opportunity to shift to new energy.
  • I think nuclear power generation is dangerous but it is impossible for alternate energy to supply unless demand for electricity decreases.
  • I think safety of nuclear power station is not enough, and that is the key problem. The number of nuclear power station should be decreased and energy supply should be shifted to another way.

(Men in their 30’s)

  • Nuclear power plants are convenient, but when a nuclear power accident happens, it will irreversibly damaged.
  • I really think it is regrettable that Japan has never reconsidered the policy concerning nuclear power generation.
  • I think the time when alternative energy will replace will be far from now because of its inefficiency and its high cost. I think it is better to abolish nuclear power plant from a security point of view. On the other hand, if the level of security and function rise I will support the opinion of increasing plants.
  • I hope that power plants will be abolished, even though electricity prices go up.
  • I hope that power plants will be abolished, even though electricity prices go up. The government should reconsider the recently introduced children’s allowance payment system, for example.
  • I think it is not so easy to abolish nuclear power plants because of the amount of demand, but new energy generation instead of nuclear power generation should be developed finally.
  • Media repeatedly reported that nuclear power generation was safe and efficient. But various problems about them regarding security, the cost, and so on were publicly disclosed with the accident of the plants in Fukushima. I think new energy is better to develop instead.

(Men in their 40’s)

  • When we think that 20 % of the amount electricity consumption provided by nuclear power plants, it is not realistic to stop them soon. Because if the nuclear power plants are abolished soon, it will effect to infrastructure, medical institutions and transportation and most of the manufacturing companies will have to reduce the scale of their operation or have to close at worst.
  • I think nuclear power plants are an important technology product which can be exported abroad, so developing them as a product should be maintained rather than using them in this country.

(Men in their 50’s)

  • Using fossil fuels like petroleum & oil will become more restricted because of its price and green house gas problems. Wind power and solar power generation can’t replace nuclear power right now. I think nuclear power generation would be needed after safety measures.
